Mowing that suits Mountains lawns
A lawn in Glenbrook and a lawn in Blackheath are two different jobs. Lower Mountains and Hawkesbury lawns are mostly kikuyu, couch and buffalo. They grow hard from October to April and slow right down once the frosts arrive. Upper Mountains lawns from Wentworth Falls up are often cool-season grasses such as tall fescue and ryegrass, which stay green through winter but can stress in hot, dry westerlies.
We set the mower height for your grass and the time of year. In spring that means a steady lower cut to keep up with growth. Heading into winter we lift the blades so the grass keeps more leaf to protect the crown from frost.
How often should a Blue Mountains lawn be mowed?
| Season | Lower Mountains & Hawkesbury | Upper Mountains |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (Sep–Nov) | Every 1–2 weeks | Every 2 weeks from October |
| Summer (Dec–Feb) | Every 1–2 weeks | Every 2 weeks |
| Autumn (Mar–May) | Every 2–3 weeks | Every 3 weeks, plus leaf clean-ups |
| Winter (Jun–Aug) | Monthly tidy | Monthly or as needed |
A guide only. Rain, shade and soil change how fast your lawn grows, so we adjust visits as we go.
Steep blocks, sandstone and tricky access
Plenty of Mountains properties are on a slope, with sandstone steps, retaining walls and narrow side access. We bring the right gear for banks and tight spots, and we whipper-snip the areas a mower can't reach safely. Tell us about access when you book and we'll quote for the real job.
Mowing and bushfire safety
Long, dry grass close to the house is fine fuel. Through the bush fire danger period, keeping grass short around your home is one of the simplest things you can do. Our regular mowing rounds help keep your bushfire preparation on track all summer.

Lawn Mowing: common questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in the Blue Mountains?
It depends on lawn size, slope, access and how often we visit. Regular visits usually cost less per mow than one-off jobs because the grass never gets away. We give a fixed price after a free look at your lawn.
Do you take the grass clippings away?
Yes, we can collect and remove clippings, or mulch them back into the lawn if you prefer. Mulching returns nutrients to the soil.
Can you mow a very overgrown lawn?
Yes. Long or neglected lawns usually need a heavier first cut, sometimes over two visits, before they go onto a regular schedule. That first visit is quoted as a clean-up.
Do I need to be home?
No. As long as we can get into the yard and pets are inside, we can mow while you're out.
